What are carrier oils?

Carrier oils are the natural oils derived from vegetarian sources and have a neutral smell. Volatile oils, for example, essential oils can evaporate easily which is why they are ineffective if left undiluted. The best carrier oils are almond oil, sesame oil, and avocado oil. They are able to control the concentration of the essential oil, by combining these two you can easily make them more applicable.

Why should you dilute?

Diluting essential oil is key. To use something effectively everything has a proper method. So without diluting the essential oils, there is no effect of the treatment, therefore it is important that you dilute the essential oil with the carrier oil and then apply it to your skin. If you do not follow the rule of dilution you can experience sensitization that can cause long-term effects. Essential oils in a neat form refer to them without using a carrier oil, hence there have been incidences that people developed a sensitivity to them. Even the best essential oils require dilution. What is Sensitization?

It is a condition that you develop when you used undiluted essential oil or neat essential oil to be precise. Once you have been desensitized to an essential oil, chances are that you will always remain sensitive towards it for the rest of your life.

Essential oils are used for aromatherapy. Some of the aromatherapy oils are lavender, tea tree, ginger oil, lemon oil, rose oil and peppermint oil. They are mostly diluted with a carrier oil, for example, almond oil and then poured into a diffuser. Oil diffuser does the job to evenly spread the aroma of the oil in the air so that you may inhale and take the benefits of it from your breathing.

How to Dilute essential oils?

For a 0.5% dilution use 5ml of essential oil and 10ml of carrier oil. To make a 2% dilution, add 1 drops of essential oil to 30 ml of carrier oil. It is best to keep it low and you can always add more according to your need. Essential oils have many uses.

How to diffuse essential oils?

Using a diffuser makes the job pretty easy to diffuse the aroma of the oils. It can be diffused with water or with a carrier oil. If you are using a diffuser mixing the essential oil with water gets the job done. Take about 5-6 drops of oil per 100ml of water, but if you want a concentrated mixture then use 80ml water.

Make precautions beforehand as some oils have a very strong aroma so test out a few drops diluted with a lot of water and then you can add more according to your need. Aromatherapy has proven to work for many people and helped them get rid of anxiety. 2% essential oil dilution is generally considered a safe guideline by aromatherapists for topical application of essential oils for elder people

The best way to make your own aromatherapy session in your home is by diffusing some essential oil with an emulsifier and add it to your bath. An emulsifier such as milk or sesame oil is considered the best options. This way the diluted oil has more tendency to diffuse thoroughly in water and seep into your skin.
