Before it can become commercially available, the wireless industry has begun testing the 5th Generation of mobile network, or 5G. The revolutionary 5G network allows a faster internet speed and connects to the Internet of Things (IoT). Thereby, it groups several internet-connected devices together. However, its momentum could be delayed because researchers are analyzing the 5G risks on our health.

Is the 5G Network Safe?

To utilize the 5G network you’ll need several small cell networks built around a 3G or 4G frequencies area. One of the perks of the network is that it enables you to download a high definition video in mere seconds.

However, this also means that you will be exposed to a higher amount of radiation. The worry stems from the possibility that cell networks could harm human tissue despite transmitting frequencies. These are much lower than the radiation wavelengths found in X-rays and Gamma rays, used medically.

Because of this, researchers engaged in an ongoing debate regarding the numerous 5G risks, especially health-wise.

Studies and the Existing 5G Risks.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), there is no need for concern. These bodies claim that there are no adverse effects of using 5G daily.

The same came from The Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA), the trade association for wireless carriers, based on research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Cancer Society.

In a 2011 study, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified cellular waves as carcinogenic. Then, in 2018, rat studies by the Ramazzini Institute showed that, when exposed to these frequencies, rats suffered risks of cancer.

There were also similar findings on the US National Toxicology Program (NTP) study. In addition to a higher risk of cancer, this study found that 5G risks also include heart and DNA damage.

Numerous studies engaged in analyzing the possible 5G risks and effects, and EMF in general. Sadly, there aren’t enough sources to determine just how 5G affects one’s health in the long run.

Similar to the standard electromagnetic frequencies (EMF), some of the 5G risks not only exist but are heightened, too.

In a nutshell, we can’t really say that the 5G network is safe. Therefore, it’s ideal to keep distance and take caution from such technology while the research regarding its safety for humans and the environment is still in-progress.

To Use or Not to Use 5G? 

The 5G network will probably be commercially available by 2020. Still, some countries are already using the said service as a test run. The countries using 5G internet include the US, Japan, China, UK, and South Korea.

On the other hand, there are also countries that slowed down, if not stopped, the deployment of 5G. For instance, Belgium, Switzerland, New Hampshire and some US states like California are against this.

That said, countries against 5G have their own, and may I say, very strict laws regarding radiation limitations. As a result, these countries refuse to introduce 5G due to its radiation-boosting powers.

Aside from the difficulty in monitoring the radiation emitted, the technology’s impact on health and environment needs to undergo and investigation, thus identifying the potential 5G risks.

The 5G Appeal.

As 5G came to life, scientists initiated studies on its impact on humans and the environment. Scientists worldwide collected their study conclusions and the results were staggering. All parties involved were certain 5G antennas are far more threatening to our health than we are led to believe.

The appeal on the use of 5G received over 250 signatures from scientists in 40 countries.

Presently, EMF dangers exist and stem from various devices we use. Such include mobile phones, computers, Bluetooth, etc. But, if 5G officially enters the market, the aforementioned risks will largely increase.

How to Protect Yourself from 5G EMF?

To limit the risks of 5G exposure, there are several useful things you can do. This is, of course, if and when the network enters into force. So, let’s look at the list of tools on how to protect yourself from 5G exposure:
